About
Tami Pyfer is the Chief Impact Officer for UNITE and co-creator of the Dignity Index. She brings decades of experience in public and higher education to the work, both at the local and state levels. Tami leads our government applications of the Dignity Index, as well as business and corporate applications.
Prior to joining the UNITE team in late 2020, Tami served for 7 years as the Education Policy Advisor to former Utah Governor Gary Herbert, where she was involved in state-level policy development, coalition building, and stakeholder engagement. She held local and state elected offices for 12 years, including 4 years on the Utah State Board of Education and 8 years as a city council member. Tami brings this experience to our team as she leads our government and political work. She’s also deeply involved in building our dignity digital community and building a national dignity movement.
Tami’s professional training is in Special Education, and before her appointment to the Governor’s executive team, she taught in the Special Education teacher preparation program at Utah State University. Tami was a 2024 Emerson Collective Fellow—part of the Community Champions Cohort—where she developed strategies and resources for women who wanted to be more engaged in the political process. And in 2025, Tami was named one of USA Today’s Women of the Year, representing Utah, where she was recognized for her role in expanding the dignity movement.
Tami and her husband, Aaron, are the parents of 5 children and grandparents of 16. They live in Salt Lake City. She describes herself as a political junkie who loves to sing—she formerly sang with the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square—and she loves spending time with her children and grandchildren.
